Readability Checker

Text version of the interactive demonstration. The checker splits a text into sentences, counts the words in each and reports three figures: the number of sentences, the total number of words and the average number of words per sentence (shown in amber when above 20, otherwise green).

Sentences of more than 20 words are highlighted orange; sentences of more than 35 words are highlighted red. Each sentence shows its word count on hover.

For the sample the checker reports 3 sentences, 40 words and an average of 13.3 words per sentence. Sentence 3 (21 words) is highlighted orange.
