Rok 2002 nebyl ve světě literatury ničím výjimečným. Knihy se psaly, vydávaly a oceňovaly literárními cenami jako v jiných letech. Knihy se četly, kupovaly, půjčovaly v knihovnách jako vždycky. Stejně jako loni, předloni a před sto lety se objevilo několik knih vynikajících a několik tisíc (ne-li desítek tisíc) knih průměrných a podprůměrných. Jedna anglicky psaná kniha ale stojí za zvláštní připomenutí.
