Complexities of women's rights

David Cameron promised to tackle the lack of women MPs from his party. What can he do? Audio here

An interesting discussion of three conservative MPs each arguing a different position. 1. women shortlists are necessary, 2. more older women (of non-child bearing age) should be nominated because they are more palatable to selectors, 3. any interference with the democratic process is bad. It seems that five decades of these debates (in the US and elsewhere) were not able to resolve these dilemmas. The conceptual intractabilities of these issues probably prevent an easy resolution (compare the length of time it took enlightenment to take hold - only to be challenged again).
